01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Take the elevator up to the 6th floor and step through the door: an expansive wall of backlit bottles brings warmth to a calm, contemporary room. Shibadaimon BAR Shinkai has built its following on two fronts, pairing the serious spirits lineup of an established cocktail lounge with a kitchen that cooks satisfying meals from scratch.

Spice and Dashi in Yakuzen Curry

The bar’s signature draw is its carefully simmered yakuzen curry, rooted in traditional herbal preparations. Options include a Sri Lankan–style spiced soup curry layered with coconut milk and over 20 herbs and spices, alongside a keema made from pressed, crumbled Shima tofu simmered in vegetable dashi. Those torn between options can assemble plates featuring 2 or 3 varieties, letting distinct spice profiles play against one another across the plate. During lunch, orders arrive with complimentary house-made pickles steeped in white wine vinegar and spices, offering a brisk, acidic palate cleanser between bites.

Japanese Distilleries and Native Botanicals

Bottles lining the back bar celebrate distilleries across Japan, from Akkeshi and Ichiro’s Malt to Komagatake, Saburomaru, and Shizuoka. Select labels can be ordered as 15 ml half-shots, making broad tastings approachable over a single sitting. The house cocktail list weaves domestic ingredients into familiar classics, featuring a Moscow mule finished with freshly grated ginger and cracked black pepper alongside a sansho-laced Negroni. Small bites such as crisp cheese dusted with aonori seaweed and thick-cut ginger-fried pork loin keep pace with every round.

From Lunch Service to Late-Night Pours

On weekdays, doors open for lunch between 11:00 and 15:00, before transitioning into a 17:00 to 19:00 happy hour with discounted rates on selected curries and drinks. The room accommodates solo visits at the counter as easily as group gatherings in the private dining space, and with last call extending until 2:00 the following morning, it remains a dependable retreat long after midnight.
